Willow Tit at a St Dogmaels bird-feeder

We received an interesting email last evening from Mark Underhill (NT). We don’t often get reports of Willow Tits at garden bird-feeders. When they do get reported, it is usually in winter (including some previous Pembs Bird sightings blog reports). Determining the species can be tricky though!

I thought you would be interested to hear I had a willow tit on my bird feeder in Cwm Degwel, St Dogmaels! I suspected it last year when I saw a bird (probably about this time of year) but couldn’t be sure it wasn’t Marsh tit. However, today it called quite distinctly and then responded really vigorously to my Willow Tit playback! I presume they are breeding nearby (there have been previous records and there is some ok habitat). Mark Underhill
