Gann – Kittiwakes

A couple of hours out early afternoon was mainly spent dodging torrential downpours and a battering by hailstones.  Amazingly after one of the showers, a group of around 40 Kittiwake dropped in to the bay, close to the shoreline.  They were present for perhaps 10 minutes, washing up, preening and sitting on the water close to the beach, but as the weather cleared they headed off north up the valley in small groups.  No idea where they came from or where they were going, but the heavy showers clearly brought them in to the bay.  Only the second time I have ever seen a flock here, it is usually storm driven singles.
