How to refurbish the blower motor on a 2004-2008 VW Rabbit (5th Generation). Also applies to 2006-2011 Volkswagen Jetta, Rabbit, GTI or Golf.

VW issued a technical service bulletin indicating that frost and/or snow can enter the air conditioning system through the fresh air intake and cause corrosion in the blower motor. That corrosion will seize the motor bearings, cause squeaking noises, and ultimately blow the resistor and/or motor.

Replacement blower motors are around $75, but this method is free.

This same method can be applied to other VW models and other generations of the Jetta/Rabbit/GTI/Golf.
