Red-throated Divers, Broad Haven

20221202_1418347E2

A scan from the Goultrop viewpoint revealed just two pairs of Red-throated Divers, one pair drifting towards Little Haven, and only a handful of gulls on the water with no sign of the dozen Mediterranean Gulls that have been around recently.

Scanning from Broad Haven back towards Borough Head at 2pm, around high tide,  produced the goods with a stretched-out raft of what I think was 16 Red-throated Divers mostly just floating with little diving. The low light meant they were in silhouette so some uncertainty. The best picture through the scope shows 12 of them.

Only around 20 Common Scoter were off Sleek Stone and one Shag and 5 Herring Gulls were the only other birds around. A single Great Northern Diver was off Druidstone Chins.
